Padukone was the daughter of badminton world champion Prakash Padukone. Padukone grew as a child in Bangalore, but she is a native of Copenhagen. When she was in her teens she played in badminton championships at national and international levels. She later quit the sport to become a designer. Padukone is born in Mangalorean background Her mother language is Konkani. Prakash Padukone is her father as well as a former badminton pro of international fame. Her mother is a travel agent.
